Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate differences in narcissism, perfectionism, family resilience and body image between both genders, and the relative effects of intra-individual variables(narcissism and perfectionism) and family-related variable(family resilience) on adolescents¡¯ body image, and to see if family resilience has any moderating effect on the relationship between narcissism and body image. The questionnaires collected from 631 1st grade high-school students in Gyeonggi and Seoul area were analyzed through frequency, t-test, Pearson¡¯s correlation analysis, stepwise and hierarchical regression analysis. The results of this study are as follows. Firstly, there were gender differences in perfectionism; no differences in narcissism, family resilience and body image were observed. Secondly, narcissism, family resilience and perfectionism were significant predictors of adolescents¡¯ body image. Specifically, body image was predicted in the order of self-exaltation/demands for attention, family organization pattern, exaggerated self-awareness, and society-imposed perfectionism. Thirdly, family role in family resilience had a moderating effect on the relationship between narcissism and body image.
